Your network shouldn't be
someone else's revenue stream.

Leased lines lock you into recurring costs that compound year on year. Every bandwidth upgrade means a new contract, a new negotiation, and more money leaving your organisation. Dark fibre changes the equation entirely.

Unlimited bandwidth potential — upgrade by changing equipment, not re-cabling
25+ year operational lifespan from a single capital investment
Full ownership — no recurring lease costs, no vendor lock-in, no surprise price rises
Built to your exact spec — not a generic off-the-shelf product

Results that speak
for themselves.

"SICOM's desktop survey showed us we could cut our annual connectivity costs by 35% by switching to dark fibre. The installation was completed two weeks ahead of schedule with zero downtime."

Case Study — Data Centre

Multi-site dark fibre backbone for regional data centre operator

A growing data centre operator needed to interconnect three facilities across the South West without relying on carrier-managed services. SICOM designed and installed a redundant dark fibre ring that gave them complete control over capacity allocation, eliminated monthly circuit costs, and provided a physical asset they own outright.

Not every fibre contractor
is a fibre specialist.

Most telecoms contractors install fibre alongside copper, structured cabling and general electrical work. SICOM does one thing: dark fibre infrastructure. It's all we've done for over a decade, and it shows in the precision of our work.

Dark fibre specialists — it's all we do, not a sideline to general contracting
In-house delivery — no sub-contractors, no finger-pointing, one team accountable
WiredScore accredited assessors — we help buildings achieve certification
Vendor-independent — we recommend what works, not what earns us commission

Things prospects
always ask.

Dark fibre is optical fibre cable that has been laid but isn't currently "lit" by a telecoms carrier. When you lease dark fibre or install your own, you control the equipment at each end — which means you choose the bandwidth, the protocol, and when to upgrade. Unlike managed leased lines where a carrier controls the connection and charges you monthly, dark fibre gives you a physical asset with unlimited bandwidth potential.
It depends on the project scope, but most installations complete within 8–16 weeks from design sign-off. A simple point-to-point link between two buildings might take 6 weeks. A campus-wide network connecting multiple buildings is typically 12–16 weeks. We provide a detailed timeline during the design phase so you know exactly what to expect.
Yes. Wayleave negotiation is part of our standard service. We handle all the legal groundwork needed to route fibre across third-party land, including liaising with landlords, local authorities and utility companies. This is one of the more time-consuming aspects of a fibre project, and having an experienced team manage it makes a significant difference to timelines.
A managed leased line is rented from a carrier (like BT or Colt) at a fixed bandwidth. You pay monthly, and upgrading means a new contract at a higher price. Dark fibre is the physical cable itself — you own or lease it, and you choose the bandwidth by selecting the equipment at each end. The upfront cost is higher, but the total cost of ownership over 10+ years is typically 30–50% lower, with no vendor lock-in and unlimited upgrade potential.
Yes. We offer ongoing support and maintenance contracts that cover monitoring, preventative maintenance and emergency response. Most clients opt for this because it protects their investment and gives them a single point of contact when anything needs attention. We monitor your infrastructure proactively and respond to faults 24/7.
Dark fibre is typically the right choice when you need connectivity for 5+ years, require high or growing bandwidth, want to avoid recurring monthly costs, or need complete control over your network. It's particularly cost-effective for organisations connecting multiple buildings on a campus, linking to data centres, or running bandwidth-intensive applications. If you only need a single short-term connection, a managed leased line might be simpler — and we'll tell you that honestly during the consultation.
